Fund-Raising Effort for Lois Watkins

Longtime West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex employee Lois Watkins lost her home and all her belongings (except for her car) in a fire on December 18.  The Sportsplex has established a bank account at FirstBank, where monetary donations can be made by anyone wishing to contribute.

Contributors may go to any FirstBank location and request to make a deposit into Account #87947909 (Fund-Raising Account for Lois Watkins).  Locations include 11 Channing Way; 1581 S. Highland Avenue; and 15 W. University Parkway, all in Jackson.

The electrical fire completely destroyed the Watkins home, along with her purse, identifications, and cash.  She escaped with the clothes she was wearing, and there was no insurance on the Allen Street house.  Lois is temporarily living with a friend after receiving immediate help from her children (who have since returned to their out-of-state homes) and monetary assistance from her co-workers.  Since she is lacking any other place to store furniture or household items that may be donated, the Sportsplex will accept gifts of that nature at its location next to The Ballpark at Jackson (home of the Jackson Generals) and hold them until future living arrangements are secured.

Lois has been a part-time employee of the Sportsplex since its inception in the fall of 2006, working as a gatekeeper and crew leader.  She was an employee of the Jackson-Madison County School System for 40 years, serving at Pope Elementary and East Elementary schools.  Anyone wishing to leave a message for Lois may also do so at the Sportsplex or by emailing sportsplex@cityofjackson.net; those notes will then be passed on to her.

Lois and the staff of the Sportsplex thank you in advance for any contributions you can make to help her move on to the next stage in the rebuilding process.
